Emmett's Fretless ASAPB

A very nice fretless ASAPB in sapele and spruce. Made for Emmett who has a busy schedule doing theatre pit work as well as being involved in several bands. He wanted the sound of the upright bass with the convenience of portability so the ASAPB seemed to be the answer when his collection of Fenders and a Musicman were unsuitable.

I have some very fine figured sapele which is an excellent tonewood and this contrasts well with the flamed maple body binding. Neck construction is a Brazillian mahogany and quartersawn maple laminate. Emmett prefers the large BM machines so the headstock had to be modified to suit.

One of the problems with acoustic bass guitars is the lack of accurate intonation adjustment so this bridge is custom made from ebony and the individual saddles are adjustable for both height and intonation. RMC Bass Excellence pickups are built into the saddles and connected to an RMC Hybrid Pro preamp. RMC plus Thomastik Acousticore strings? I don't think you can better this combination for the sound Emmett was looking for.

The bass is very playable with natural attack and decay and with the ability to growl when required. Does the business.
